It is required by South African law that your compressor be pressure tested by a registered competent person every 36 months.
Pressure testing is done hydrostatically with a thickness tester being used to establish the quality of the vessel and a tube camera to perform an internal inspection of the vessel. After the process has been carried out, a test certificate and thickness certificate are issued for each vessel.
